Cubistic Drumming

In visual art, Cubism involves analyzing an object, breaking it apart, then reassembling it in some abstracted way. Artists then depict the object in a new context, which features a variety of visual perspectives -- rather than one viewpoint.

As drummers, we can examine rhythms or grooves in a similar way. We can break apart, reassemble, and recontextualize layers of sound. We can each apply a unique cubistic principle to rhythms, giving listeners a window into how we hear and play the instrument.
