Go Yama String Theory

Music can bring different viewpoints together: when your instrument allows room for other voices, the different sounds create a complementary whole.

In this piece, Go Yama String Theory, I remove lead-hand notes to find a different corner of the pocket. On this tune, by Garrett "Go Yama" Oyama, I played right-hand parts on my leg, making the lead hand nearly silent. The left hand stayed on the hi-hat, emphasizing syncopated parts of the groove. This created space for the sampled drums to weave into my parts. #drumlanguage #goyama
